June 2014, Update

Dear Praying Saints,
            May was an amazing month for us in which we saw the manifold blessings of God to His work here.  We pray that you have taken note of His mercies to you and given Him thanks from your heart.

            Our first praise is for the electric company in Quito who sent a team out because they had heard there was a school without electrical power.  Our petitions and initial down payment to the company had been ignored for almost a year when suddenly several people in blue appeared on our porch.  The group was very blest by the children but quite chagrined that nothing had been done.  They immediately put in two fiberglass poles, a 15kVA transformer and strung a 240 Volt cable from the road to the school area.  Dave and Zak, the short-term worker with us, put in another pole and cable to feed the school.  After seven years of running off of generators, we now have 24 hour coverage.  It is a great relief and praise.
            Then came nurse Carrie Dotson from Washington State.  Carrie is a wonderful addition to the family:  enthusiastic, spiritually sensitive, already a good friend to Kjersti and in demand by our village and Maria’s high school in Quito to teach English, first aid and do minor health repairs.  June through August she will be working mainly in Quito for Maria’s extension program with Ecuador’s young elite athletes who are in training for world competitions.  What a marvelous opportunity to share Jesus!  Please pray that Carrie advances rapidly in her Spanish fluency so she can converse confidently about the Lord.

            Another new and VERY exciting step for the Mission is the creation of the “Traveling School” or “Van with a Plan”.  We are blessed with Travelling class 6God’s strategy to reach the children in the outlying forgotten villages in such a unique way.  Think about it:  no building, furniture or stationary teachers to find, pay for and maintain and no incredible hassles with government red tape to run a formal school.  But it is an easy, fun way for children to hear the word of God, learn English and receive videoed classroom teaching of pre-school through fourth grades.  Since this effort will be a tutoring “business” and not a school, we will not be seen as competition by the local public schools.  The plan is to present an opportunity to individual principals to relieve the large classroom stress by sending us 12 students two hours a day, three days a week.  The children will be taught by the videos we have created and receive personal tutoring with corresponding textbooks we provide.  Since the primary goal is to present our vibrant, living, loving Jesus to the children and then a solid academic foundation, we need no kudos for how well the children do in their studies.  The local school will be the beneficiary of higher test scores and students who have met Jesus.  Ideally, the traveling school will be able to visit six communities a week on a regular schedule.  The more vans, drivers and circuit riding teachers we send out, the more communities we can affect.  Discipling children in the faith while educating future leaders.  How exciting is this?!?
            How about you or someone you know?  The need is for:
  1. Believers who are willing to walk by faith and stretched in their understanding of God’s plan for them and others;English with Hermana Carmen
  2. Believers committed to spend at least a year of their lives on the cutting edge of national transformation;
  3. Confident, competent drivers willing to double as teacher and/or Bible study leader with the parents that will accompany the children;
  4. Loving adults who want to touch lives for the Kingdom by tutoring children;
  5. Funds to buy 2 – 3 more vans and equipment.
Travelling classOur 2014 DVD will have footage of our first exploratory foray using our van.  Be sure to ask for a copy if we don’t send you one by early August or check it out on our website: www.sealaluz.org
Many blessings to each of you for following what God is doing here and encouraging us to keep forging ahead.  We trust we will be able to see many of you this summer on the east coast and mid-west.

Word for the Week

«Break it off,  break out».

I must break off the things that hold me down and distract me.  I ask You, Lord, break off the evil structures that I have allowed to tie me down.  I claim that Blood of Jesus and will myself to obey the strategies You give me and I move instead of sitting and procrastinating.   I declare I break out of the box of my understanding and hang on to You.

Word for the Week

Press forward, never go back.

We are called to press into the heart of the matter, discover the truth, expose the lie and do what God tells us to do to remove the evil.  Compromise is not an option.

Word for the Week

«For MY honor and glory»

We must remember that everything we do, say and think must be what honors our Father in heaven.  Jesus did nothing but what He saw His Father doing, we must follow His example.

Word for the Week

Change the world.

We must seek the Lord daily for His changes in the way we think, see and speak but also in how we are to accomplish His changes in the world around us.  Declare that His joy increases in us all week.

Word for the Week

Unique strategies.

I believe the Lord wants us to ask for strategies WAY outside our thinking.  Strategies for relationships, for business, for ministry, for the next phase in our destinies.  Ask, seek, knock.

Word of the Week

«I press My mark of light on you.»

Just as the people knew that Peter and John had been with Jesus, so too, let the Light of the Lord so shine through us because we spend time with Him that we are marked with that attraction that draws people to Jesus.

April, 2014 Update

Hello Folks,

In another week we will be focusing in on Passover as we praise Jesus for His gift of salvation to us and “pass” from the old to the new. May we seriously pray that He renew our minds and transform our lives.

2014Apr Receiving GraduatesLast week we were again privileged to participate with a group of high school seniors passing over from one level and graduating to a new season. These students are mid-term graduates from our dear friend, Maria’s, high school. She invites us each time to sit with her, place the caps on the kids, and say a blessing over them. Dave was unable to attend but Kjersti took pictures and blessed the seniors down below while I blessed them when they came forward.

2014Apr Officially GraduatesKjersti also wrote a thoughtful devotional this month to share with all of you.

2014Apr Blessing the Graduates

Every one of these precious kids has a good future from God!

Many blessings and thanks for your continued prayers and thoughts.

God Is Love.

Do we know what it means to Love the God Who Is Love? We love Him, because He first loved us. When did He Love us? When in His infinite Heart He decided to create us in His Image, that event in Eternity when He made us, He Loved us. “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:” (Eph 1:4). Before we ever set foot on this good earth He created for us, we were in His Hand since that Moment before the foundation of the world in which He chose us.

I wonder: do we remember? Does the immortal spirit of man remember the time with his Creator before being breathed into a body of flesh at conception? Did we get to read the Book? “Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me, I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.” (Ps 40:7-8). “Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.” (Ps 139:16). Do we ever realize now just how much He delighted in us before we were ever born? Do we still feel His Love pulse through us with every beat of our heart and every breath that we take? Does that glimpse of Eternity He gave us yet burn in us with the same passion He feels to share Eternity together? Or have we, like Jerusalem, spurned our Father Who gave us life and our only Savior Who can set us free; and when He wanted to gather us under His wings, we would not?

But the Father’s Love is not passive – it pursues us with the Action that overturned the very fabric of death and life. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (Jn 3:16). The manifestation of the extent of His Love for us is His Sacrifice. The color of Love is the color of Blood. Even as He chose us and Loved us before the foundation of the world, He gave “…the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” (Rev 13:8). Such is the Father’s Love for us that “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (II Pt 3:9). Even in spite of all our sins and rebellions His Love goes so deep, His desire is that we return and dwell with Him forever. “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.” (Jn 14:3-4).

Do not forget the immensity of God’s Love for you, that first created you capable of loving Him, then gave you the choice even while He poured out His infinite Love for all to see. Let His Love borne on His Blood reach past all your doubts and failures to flood you and awaken you again. Receive it, return it, and tell Him you Love Him, too. Begin Eternity now, Loving Him.

Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Word for the Week

«Honesty»

In this world, honesty will set us apart and draw others to us.   Because of our righteous testimony, others will take courage and face down the enemy when tempted.

Word for the Week

«Move in your giftings.»

I hear the Lord calling us to focus on what we are destined to do and not be distracted by all the «good» things we can do.   Tie up that loose end, delegate that responsibility, hone in to our ‘such a time as this’ moment (which can be a lifetime).    Remember that the «good» is the enemy of the «best.»
