January, 2014 Update

2014 Jan Padres

 Dear Rejoicing Saints:

We want to thank each of you who sent us your Christmas family news.  It is good to catch up and share with your lives . We thank those that are excited with us for the new family that has been formed between Erland, our son, and Mayra Bermudez.   Being an international union, there are several extra steps involved in their legal marriage before they can be free to live in the United States.  In Ecuador, the only binding contract for a marriage is that issued by the government before a judge.  A church wedding may or may not be part of the equation.  This week a group of family members stood with Erland and Mayra before the judge to legally seal their pledge to one another.  With this certificate, the lengthy process can be started to obtain a green card for Mayra.
The Lord has put into Erland’s heart to return to the States to join the military as his career.  Time is of the essence because of his age; therefore, he will fly to the US this month and begin his journey in the army while Mayra stays in Ecuador waiting for her visa.  When her residency is granted, Erland will return to Ecuador, they will have a wonderful church wedding and then fly off to begin their new life and family. God’s timing.
What more does 2014 hold?   The number 14 implies double spiritual perfection.  I see this as a year of opportunity for us to gain access to the Throne Room and His revelation like never before.  God WANTS us to know Him more intimately, to hear His voice more clearly, to learn to have holy fear of Him so we can gain wisdom.  He WANTS us to walk in and complete the individual destiny He lovingly planned for us before He created the earth.  Jeremiah 33:3 is key:  “Call unto Me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things that you do not know.”   In the coming months we must meditate on His Word with the anticipation that He will teach us; we must ask for more and more revelation to stay Kingdom focused in everything we do; we must obey immediately what we hear Him tell us to do.
Remember that perfection comes with trials and sharpening.  Hold on to His hand, trust in His guidance and follow with joy.
Kjersti puts in lots of time and creativity to make our mission website fresh and uplifting.  Please visit  us at  www.sealaluz.org.
Together for the Kingdom,

Word for the Week

Honor covenants.    Whether with God or with man, I believe we must be wise in making covenants and promises and be alert to fulfill them.

Word for the Week

What the Lord put on my heart to share for this week:

The door is narrow.  Focus on it, run through it and be ready for the ride.

What I see is an elevator that can go up, down or straight ahead.  Sometimes the door is open;  sometimes we must have strategy from heaven to open the door; sometimes we must fight to get to the door and then through it.   We are in a season of major change.  Ask the Lord to open your eyes to see the door, be willing to go through the door and then say,  “Here am I, Lord, send me.”

Christmas Program 2013

What fun God has planning surprises for His kids!  We had our Christmas program on Friday, Dec. 20,  and God sent some jaw-dropping gifts to show His love.

As God has put it on our hearts, the school children and staff spend time with the Lord in quiet heart searching, cleansing and preparation before any program.  This we did, which made us ready for His surprises.  It was time to start the program, so I went outside to call the parents in from the kitchen area where they were preparing lunch.  As I went out the door, 7 visitors met me.  Timing is everything.  OCP is the primary oil producing company in Ecuador.   Every school, foundation, community, whatever is ALWAYS begging them for donations or gifts – except us. We do not solicit gifts from anyone.   God, however, has made it a point to have some businesses bless our children every year and OCP is one such company.  The leader of the PR group is a believer and so enjoys coming to bless and be blest.   They gave each child a gift and then we were able to bless them with fudge that Zakry and his junior highers made for the celebration.  What fun!

We blessed them

The OCP visitors stayed for a couple of songs from the children, individual hugs and thank-you’s.  I asked if I could pray over them outside so the program could continue.  Those that had come before were eager to receive a word from the Lord.  God had a special message for each one and I watched fear turn to joy in the eyes of the soldiers that accompanied the company officials.

When I returned to the program,  the children were just beginning a song that is not Christmas related, but a song of deep love for Jesus.  God’s presence had filled the room and the parents were transfixed.   When the song finished, the children stood up and picked up their flags but a hush stayed over the audience.  No one clapped, they simply basked and we went into a prayer of love and praise.   It was awesome.

The New Fence Finished

Fence Key

A job well done!  The key to the new, finished fence has been presented.  Praise God!

Praise God!  We are grateful to announce the completion of a beautiful and secure chain-link fence around the Tambo school.  Thank you all for your prayers with us.  Erland planned, directed and labored in the project for six months, persevering through many difficulties and setbacks with unreliable hired help.  In the end, it was Erland, Zak and a few hired fathers from the school who put their backs into the hard work of hauling materials, stretching the fencing, and mixing cement.  Dave did the welding and ran the gas-powered cement mixer, as well as giving invaluable input and counsel throughout the project.  What a blessing to have a quality finished product to show for all their effort!  We praise God for protection for the workmen and His provision to see it through to completion.

Muddy Fence

Steep, muddy terrain made the project a challenge

The teachers and children are blessed and excited to have a protected area for the school buildings – as well as a fence to prevent the soccer ball from rolling down the hill!  The children were also delighted to help clean up bits of wire and trash in the wake of the construction.

December, 2013 Update

Dear Wonderful Saints,
This is the end of a year of amazing victories, a few unexpected course corrections, some frustrations, a couple of homegoings of dear ones and tremendous hope and vision for what God is pointing us to in the coming months.
One quick testimony of seeing Jeremiah 17:14 in action.  “Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I shall be saved, for YOU are my praise.”  Last week, I was stopped by a mom who has been with the school for 11 years.  She came to the Lord about five years ago and I have seen some progress in her Christian growth but not as I would have hoped.
Ines was very excited to tell me her story.  Her 15-year-old nephew had an operation which we prayed about at school.  The boy slipped into a coma after the operation and was not expected to live.   On the second day of the coma, Ines gathered her family members together in the hospital waiting room and prayed with them that God would wake the boy up.  To pray in public was a tremendous act of faith for her. She then went to the intensive care room where she was left alone with her nephew.  She said she was full of faith but trembling as she prayed a prayer of desperation.  A warm wind blew gently through the closed room and caused her to open her eyes.  The bed sheets fluttered in response to the wind and she knew God was present with her.  She took the boy’s hand and his eyes blinked open three times – the first movement he had made in two days.   Ines was beside herself as she hurried back to her family and told them the good news.  No one believed her but she kept praying.  Two more days passed in motionless coma, when suddenly the boy woke up.  Ines knows God came and touched the boy.  Her faith has taken a giant step forward.   We praise God with her and I lay down my expectations as how God is working in the lives of others. ProposalE_M
Erland and Mayra Hiking          We have some major good news!  Erland, our son, is engaged to a beautiful, godly Ecuadorian young lady and we are thrilled.   If you have seen our last two school videos, you have met Mayra.  They plan to get married on January 3rd and then start the monumental visa process so they can live in the USA.   Rejoice with us and praise the Lord!
Another bit of super news is that Kjersti has put together and released to the world our very own webpage!!  Now you can visit us lots of times each month and find out what God is doing to and through the Injerds of Mission SEA LA LUZ in Ecuador.  Make this site a favorite:  www.sealaluz.org .  To God be the glory!!  (Kjersti took the incredible mountain photos from our valley.)
Have a blessed time celebrating Jesus this month.  You are special to us and very special to HIM.

Matthew 6:33

But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.
